In a small village in Darley Abbey, Derby, a feline thief named Harry has been wreaking havoc by repeatedly stealing clothing and food from his neighbors over the past four years. His owner, Donna Hibbert, has recently taken to social media to try and return the stolen items.
According to Ms. Hibbert, Harry has a habit of bringing home stolen goods, including underwear, sausages, and even a designer shoe. In the past week alone, he has taken six items from unsuspecting neighbors. Ms. Hibbert believes that Harry thinks the items are gifts for his owner.
Despite the embarrassment of having a cat that steals, Ms. Hibbert is grateful that Harry’s thievery is more often directed towards objects rather than birds or mice. She estimates that Harry has stolen about £300 worth of items over the years.
Harry’s brother, Luna, also brings home items, but they are usually bits of rubbish such as crisp packets and cigarette packets.
In an effort to return the stolen items to their rightful owners, Ms. Hibbert has started posting pictures of the items on the Spotted: Darley Abbey Facebook page. Her concern was that a neighbor might think they were losing their mind, wondering where their items went.
The response to Ms. Hibbert’s posts has been overwhelmingly positive, with neighbors expressing their amusement and appreciation for the quirky behavior of Harry the cat. One neighbor even saw the post and identified some of the stolen items as their own, stating “I thought I was going mad.”
Despite the inconvenience caused by Harry’s antics, it seems that the village of Darley Abbey is taking it all in good humor. Perhaps Harry’s thievery is just his way of bringing a bit of excitement and entertainment to his neighborhood.
